Symington's Corset factory

Symingtons Corset Factory

A shadow of it's former self, the photograph shows the last section standing, of what was the largest factory in the town at the turn of the l9th century. Built in 1889 on the site of an old carpet factory, the Italianesque tower is by far the most interesting part of the building.
Symington is a name that was world famous for the invention of the "Liberty Bodice" and producer's of women's corsetry. The factory ceased production in 1957.
Today the building houses the towns Pen Lloyd Library and Council Chamber and offices, as well as the Harborough Museum and Tourist Information Centre.
