St. Wilfrids church actually stands just inside Kibworth Beauchamp,
but is included here because it serves both communities. It has some
notable events in its history, although the most notable was the
occasion in July 1825 when the steeple collapsed, although nobody was
injured in any way. It is said the steeple was the tallest in
Leicestershire but it was never re-built because the villagers refused
to contribute to the cost. They blamed the Rector and church wardens
for letting it get into such a poor state of repair that it had
collapsed. So to this day it just has a basic tower although it does
hold 8 bells which are rung weekly.
